GI Café
The Clearing Barrel GI coffeehouse opened 2012 in the center of Kaiserslautern, Germany, the centerpiece of U.S. military installations in Europe with the Ramstein Airbase and Landstuhl Medical Center.
The Clearing Barrel is open for everyone. It’s a warm and beautiful place to relax and to enjoy a strong fair trade coffee or a tasty Saturday breakfast.
The coffeehouse also provides a safe, alternative space for soldiers, veterans and their families to socialize, learn about their rights in the military, receive counseling, engage one another in political discussions, and organize themselves to resist illegal wars and military occupations.
The Clearing Barrel offers events, movies and concerts. The current program is available at our website.
The coffeehouse is run by Meike Capps-Schubert, since 2003 active in the Military Counseling Network and is supported by volunteers.

Military Counseling Network e.V.
The Military Counseling Network e.V. provides free, confidential and accurate information on U.S. military regulations and practices to service members, veterans and their families.
We are part of a consortium of more than twenty non-governmental, non-profit organizations located in more than fifteen states in the U.S. and in Germany, known as the GI Rights Hotline. Some of our counselors are veterans, some are lawyers and some have decades of military counseling experience.
We help service members with military discharges, grievances, complaints and other GI rights. We can assist veterans with getting their benefits. We are in constant contact with each other to stay up-to-date on the latest military regulations and practices.
Many of us are not lawyers, but in cases in which an attorney might be useful, we can help you find one.
